Ashlene is the Horizon Europe Northern Ireland Contact Point (NICP) for Engineering (Manufacturing, Materials and Transport).

Based within the Research Development office in Queen’s University Belfast, Ashlene provides support on EU framework funding. For the NICP role specifically, Ashlene supports topics within (Pillar II) Clusters 4 and 5 that fall within the remit of manufacturing, materials and transport. Ashlene is particularly interested in helping to facilitate connections for consortium bids using her cross-border, European and international connections – built up in current and previous roles – as well as making new connections with other EU institutions.

Ashlene has an academic background in science and engineering and also has experience in industry. She worked previously in manufacturing as the liaison between the R&D department and key production processes throughout the plant to facilitate new product development. She has worked on a substantial EU-funded cross-border R&I project, supporting knowledge transfer between academia and industry across the Renewable Energy and Advanced Manufacturing sectors. Ashlene also has managed an industrial collaboration project around contaminated plastics recycling and has experience on multi-partner collaborative projects, having managed an EC funded ERASMUS+ partnership, centering on hydrogen skills development.
